hitA terrorist threat, a sinister organisation, and a threat to the security of the free world.
Renowned British lawyer and Sandhurst military academy dropout, Mark Lucas King is assigned the case of his career: to prosecute known terrorist Mohammed Al-Azidi.

All King wants is justice and to do his job successfully. But his peaceful life is shattered when a team of merciless hitmen targets him and his family and the court case collapses. Framed for assault and suspected of his wife’s murder, King must leave his legal career behind and go back to his old career as a British Army sniper in order to catch those responsible and hold them to account. Mark King’s brand of justice doesn’t involve a court room.

Forced to battle against highly trained hitmen to clear his name, King discovers that a sinister organisation known as Invictus Advoca is operating behind the scenes. What is their connection to him and the Al-Azidid case?

As the hunt for those responsible takes him far across Europe, can Mark unravel the mysteries that shroud this secretive organisation and peel back the layers to discover why he and his family have found themselves the target of professional hitmen?

Time is not on Mark King’s side as he races to prevent a global terror threat, discover who killed his wife, and find out who wants him dead, and why.

I’ve read a few books out of my usual safety net this year, Hit being one of them. I have never read a war/action/spy type of book ever I don’t think, but you know …I’m up for giving anything a try says the new me.

Hit gets straight into the action right from the start and continues at a very fast pace. Mark King’s career is just about at the top of the game and he is just about to take on the case of his life, when his wife is assassinated. Clearly a warning against proceeding as a prosecutor in a high profile case against a terrorist suspect, he is determined to track down and find the person/people responsible. He draws on his former MI6 training to establish himself in a bunker, kitting himself out with sophisticated surveillance equipment and weaponry as he seeks revenge in his wife’s, and justices, name.

I was surprised how easily I found this one to read, and it took no time at all to race through the pages. The author has an easy style of writing that carries the reader through in super quick time. If I’m honest, it lacked an emotional impact for me – I just didn’t feel in any way connected or have understanding or insight for the characters. However, that’s probably down to the type of reader I am. I’m more interested in character development, description and emotional connections, whereas this is all about the action packed plot – exactly how it should be.

Hit explores the dangerous world of corruption, terrorism, greed, power and revenge. With more books in the series planned, there’s opportunity to get to know Mark King better and find out what exactly makes him tick. A whirlwind of action, espionage, gun fights and impressive technology and gadgetry, I think if you’re a fan of this genre and looking for something fast paced, quick and engaging then this might be for you.
